Benefit Powderflage

Defence forces

"Hello," said the nice girl at the Benefit counter. "Hello," said Beauty Buzz, "what's that?" "That," said nice Benefit girl, "is called Powderflage and it's a really lightweight concealer that covers fine lines and dark circles and you apply it with a special brush. I'll put some on you and you can see what you think." "Okay," said Beauty Buzz and so it came about that even though we didn't need another concealer, we've got a new make-up obsession. Powderflage, particularly when applied around the eyes, has miraculous skin-enhancing qualities, making you look less tired in an instant. And when the litmus test is harsh department-store lighting, you know you're onto a winner. €30 from Clerys, Arnotts and Brown Thomas.

The eyes have it

taking its cues from the '20s and '30s, Dior's new autumn look celebrates the femme fatale, with lots of smoky eyes, vampy nails and luminous complexions. The star product in the range is the Dior Jazzclub (€64), a vanity case just for eyes, in a cute, vintage-style clutch. It comes in a 'Smoky Jazz' and a 'Purple Jazz' palate and contains a cream eye-liner, brow powder, matte eye shadow, two iridescent shadows and a sparkly top coat and the look is modelled here by Jessica Stam, a model so cool that Marc Jacobs named a bag for her.

Bellissimo

if you're looking for a non-invasive but highly effective way of improving skin tone, we've seen the effects of Push & Peel, available at the Bellaza salon in Dublin 6, and we're mightily impressed. We won't bamboozle you with the science bit but it works on a slow-release principle, where the skin is exfoliated and collagen production stimulated, giving an overall and immediate appearance of luscious, younger looking skin – a mini, non-painful facelift if you will. A single treatment, which is perfect for special occasions, costs €200 while the recommended course of three costs €600. 27 Ranelagh Rd, Dublin 6; tel: 01 496 34 84.
