She has been described as Dublin's answer to Amy Winehouse. Now The Diary can reveal that Liberties singer Imelda May is set to supply the soundtrack to a major new British film.
Imelda is currently in negotiations for her raucous rockabilly and aching torch songs to feature in Wild Targets, a hitman caper starring Love, Actually actor Bill Nighy and Emily Blunt.
"I don't want to jinx it but the producers seem keen and say they like what they've heard so far," she said.
Last October, Jools Holland asked May to appear on his BBC TV music show and, since then, she has signed to Universal Classic and had her debut album Love Tattoo storm the charts.
This week she starts a 38-date tour of the UK but not before she records a Channel 4 special at London's legendary Abbey Road Studios.
"It's a huge honour but the Beatles connection just doesn't do it for me. I'm more of an Elvis fan so I'm waiting to get the call from Sun Studios," she joked.
