Peter Murphy

1. Mr & Mr

Ireland's favourite stylist Graham Cruz has left the country but you can view his new jewellery label (one-off, handmade) at Circus Store, Powerscourt Centre, Dublin 2.

2. Peter Murphy

One of the most learned chaps in Irish journalism, Murphy is a regular 'Hot Press' contributor. Can't wait for his debut novel, 'John the Revelator', out in February and a prime slice of hiberno-gothic.

3. Cape Verde Islands

Balmy weather, fantastic beaches and only six hours' flying time from London are part of this
west African archipelago's appeal. Plus, it's relatively undiscovered by the masses, which will make you feel lovely and smug should you book a holiday here.

4. Casio watches

Sure, you could spend thousands on a Tag Heuer, but it's still not as brilliant as a calculator watch. So retro and so useful. We will be getting ours in Urban Outfitters.

5. Mineral make-up

Beauty mavens say that this stuff isn't just another trend but the future. Made from all-natural, finely ground minerals, minus chemicals, dyes and preservatives found in traditional makeup, it looks natural and feels light on the skin. Check out Minerologie at New Blue Eriu.

6. Ladyhawke

Pip Brown, aka Ladyhawke, brings her electro-pop, indie-rock, new-wave wares to town on 5 February when she plays Dublin's Academy. Soon Lily Allen, Duffy et al will be a vague, unwelcome memory.

7. Amy Poehler

Funny woman Poehler, who co-starred with Tina Fey in 'Baby Mama' and those Sarah Palin sketches, has a brilliant web-based show for young girls called Smart Girls at the Party. Find it at www.onnetworks.com.

8. Politeness

As civilisation collapses it's important not to forget our manners. Thankfully they've just reissued Barbara Cartland's 'Etiquette Handbook: A Guide to Good Behaviour from the Boudoir to the Boardroom', which will help one choose the correct fork for eating one's neighbour.

9. Confessions of a Shopaholic

Going after the 'SATC Movie' demographic again is this Isla Fisher vehicle and adaptation from the first in the hugely successful series of Sophie Kinsella novels, meaning sequels are inevitable.

10. Istanbul

Always historically rich, Istanbul has emerged in recent times as a stylista's city-break choice, thanks to new boutique hotels like the W and Witt Instanbul Suites. Set to be the European City of Culture 2010, so get there before the hordes do.
