Profligate waste is out! Thrift and craft is in! Sewing-machine sales are up, 'knit nights' like those organised by This is Knit (www.thisisknit.ie) are on the rise and there's even a knit café called Stitch in Dublin's Beaumont.
13. The O2
Not just changing the face of venues in Ireland, but the design and general awesomeness of the O2 arena will make a mark globally too. All there's left to do is somehow get a ticket to something.
14. Recession vintage
Everyone loves vintage clothes, but not the prices. '09 will see swap shops take off in a big way. For an extra vintage fix, check out the Irish Cancer Society shop in Rathmines, Dublin, which houses its own vintage section.

17. Natasha Rocca Devine
Rosanna what and Sarah who? Step forward Ireland's new It girl. Twenty-four-year-old student/ presenter/ journalist/ model/ Natasha Rocca Devine is the daughter of Michelle and former footballer John Devine. She's also an ambassador for the charity Aware.
18. Eoghan Kidney
Twenty-nine-year-old Kidney is a Dublin filmmaker and visual artist whose short films and music videos have won countless awards. Kidney is currently developing an animated feature film based on the 1960s American sci-fi novel 'Rogue Moon'.
19. Holidaying at home
Aka, 'staycation', the naff expression for our newly found enthusiasm for holidaying in Wexford or Cork. No luggage size or passport issues and if you don't like it, well, you're not too far from home.
20. Law and Order London
ITV will air the first 13 episodes of the British offshoot of the highly successful American series in 2009. Both staff and actors from 'Torchwood' have been drafted in.
