Watchmen

41. Watchmen

The first big superhero film of '09 is based on the famous '80s comic-book series of the same name. Directed by Zach Snyder, the same guy who made the colossal spectacle that was '300'.

42. Dylan Haskins

Twenty-one-year-old Dublin documentary maker, DIY gig promoter, record-label owner, venue owner (he's converted a three-bed semi in south Dublin into a gig space) Haskins is set to become a big player as recession-era music returns to indie basics.

43.

Theoutnet.com

Tired of salivating over the gorgeous and super-expensive threads featured on net-a-porter? The web outlet has realised that few of us are still in the market for €2,000 bags so it's launching discounted designer site theoutnet.com next year.

44. Vampires

Having firmly secured the crown of 'new wizards' last year, '09 will continue to be all about vampires – in film ('Twilight'), TV (HBO's 'True Blood'), and in key fashion and make-up trends.

45. Sinead Robinson

Having previously worked for John Rocha and Avoca Anthology, designer Robinson's latest collection is inspired by Hitchcockian glamour pusses; in other words, it's ultra feminine and ultra flattering. She's stocked at Sansoucis in Malahide and Ruby in Tralee, amongst other boutiques.

46. Apple OSX

Snow Leopard

Apple's new operating system should drop in mid-'09, but as always, the exact date is shrouded in mystery. Okay, so it's no 'Jesus Phone', but every Apple announcement is worthy of excitement.

47.

Bikes

Forget environmentally friendly hybrid cars and plug-in vehicles. The cool kids have long known that
a rothar is the best way to get around. Zippy, healthy and with little-to-no maintenance involved, topping our fantasy list is the Kronan, designed for the Swedish army in the '40s.

48. Loreanna Rush

Photographer Loreanna Rush is a shining star in a galaxy of young Irish photographers. She works for the 'NME', the 'Irish Times', 'Hot Press', is currently a staff photographer with 'State' magazine, and also creates surrealist artwork for Fight Like Apes record releases.

49.

Jack McBrayer

He's hilarious in sitcom '30 Rock', but you just have to see his contribution to criminal instruction manual 'Livin' Neath the Law' on www.funnyordie.com. He's going to be everywhere this year.

50.

The XX Factor

'Slate' magazine's 'Lady Blog' is soon to become a webzine and is threatening to take a chunk out of media blog Jezebel's audience, even if it is far more studious than the Gawker subsidiary.
