Fyfe Dangerfield: Attenborough on drums

Vocals: Will Oldham

I love his voice. It's really easy to listen to, one of those voices you find yourself ripping off without realising. He uses all the wobbles and technical imperfections, and it becomes a strength. You can relate to it, it's human. He has a great beard, too. I'd like Dusty Springfield to sing with him; an amazing pure voice.

Guitar: Neil Young

He's one of few singers I can accept a guitar solo from without feeling ill. For this band, give him a big, chunky, acoustic guitar and he can sit there looking grumpy.

Bass: John Edwards

He's a double bass player, not very well known. He's played with Spiritualised recently, I think. He's the sort of musician who can play fiercely but can also play so simply.

Piano: Alice Coltrane

I really like the way she played piano, it was so romantic. She played the harp brilliantly, too. She played on John Coltrane records: that's how she met her future husband.

Drums: David Attenborough

I don't really need drums with this band. I have a feeling David's comfortable and reliable. He'd only need to play a simple beat. It would make a really interesting visual. As told to Gillian Orr
