Simon and Christian Stokes: could face an investigation into their management of the company that controlled Residence

UP TO 10 offers have been made for the lease on Cáfe Bang, the trendy Dublin restaurant than went into liquidation last month.

James Dunphy of McNally Handy, which is managing the search for a new tenant for the premises, said he hopes to reach an agreement on finding a new tenant for the building this week.

Dunphy said up to 40 parties had viewed the premises on Merrion Row. He declined to identify any of those that had responded to the sealed tender. Most of the interest is believed to have come from existing restaurateurs.

Mayfair Properties, the company behind Cáfe Bang, went into liquidation last month owing creditors €2.4m.

The restaurant was owned by twins Simon and Christian Stokes, who also saw their private members' club Residence fall into the hands of a receiver.

The brothers could now face an investigation into their management of the company that controlled Residence by the Office of the Director of Corporate Enforcement.

They failed to secure the appointment of an examiner for Residence and Judge Peter Kelly accused them of "thieving" after failing to pass on their employees' tax contributions.

Residence has liabilities of about €4m, while another company controlled by the Stokes, Auldcarn, also went into liquidation owing its creditors about €2.3m.
