U2 selling 10,000 tickets for €30

Deal of the Week

Credit where credit is due: U2 pulled off a PR coup last week with the announcement that they are to make at least 10,000 tickets for the band's Croke Park performance available at €30. Of course, they aren't going to be out of pocket – at least 15% of tickets will be priced above €95 for the band's British and Irish concerts this summer. It's a clever move though; the gesture will be appreciated by cash-strapped fans and goes some way to counteract the recent disquiet about the band's tax affairs.

Bad Value of the Week

When Sky contacted a Sunday Tribune reader in late January with an offer to upgrade their package to include Sky Movies at half price for three months, the reader jumped at the chance. What's more they were told to just cancel the movies after three months if they didn't want to pay the full price. Imagine their surprise, then, to find themselves landed with a bill of more than €90 for March. It should have been €41.75. When contacted, Sky said that not only had they billed for two-and-half-months, the offer had not been applied and the charge could not be refunded to take that deal into account. Shoddy.

Tip of the Week

Check out website www.ratemyarea.com. A free service, it allows you to access user-generated reviews of businesses in your local area covering everything from restaurants to medical clinics. By checking out the reviews, you can figure out where the best value businesses in your area are, and more importantly, what businesses and services to avoid. And if you choose, businesses can keep in touch with you via the site, which gives rise to special offers. It currently covers the Dublin area only but the plan is to expand elsewhere.
