What do women want? Quite frankly, this. Why bother with chocolates, bouquets, dinners and whatever the usual Valentine's tat are when you can head straight to the fabulosity that is Rigby and Peller underwear. This is lingerie as fine art and 360 degrees from Ann Summers. Unfortunately there are no Irish stockists but you can buy it online and they told us it will get here in time for 14 February. Order it at www.rigbyandpeller.com or via 00 44 845 076 5545. The bra costs £109 and it's £89.95 for the pants. Yes please.
There's a certain fascinating and iconic element to red shoes. It's David Bowie singing "Put on your red shoes and dance the blues." It's Marilyn Monroe wearing red diamante shoes in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes and it's Dorothy clicking her ruby red heels in The Wizard of Oz to get home to Kansas. Don a pair of red heels like these, the gorgeous 'Brooke' from Kurt Geiger, and nobody can accuse you of hiding your light under a bushel. And as it's Valentine's next weekend, why would you? €240 from Brown Thomas.
We've only recently happened upon cutesy online store Hampton Blue, which launched last summer, but we're very impressed. Set up by two sisters with a passion for travel and the nice things in life, it stocks a great range of jewellery, accessories and gifts, many of them unusual, all of them beautiful. Quite the treasure trove and we especially like this 'Dandy' compact from Disaster Designs with a postcard imprint on the front and 'You're looking lovely' inscribed on the mirror. A great present but, equally, a lovely self-gift. £8.50 from www.hamptonblue.co.uk.
It wouldn't be the run-up to Valentine's without concession to something heart shaped but that's not the only reason we like these earrings from Accessorize. Pleasingly trashy, cheap as chips (€10), pink, cute and tapping into fashion's current obsession with all things French, wear them with Gallic insouciance while chanelling Vanessa Paradis.
* We're loving... charm necklaces
New trend alert! Think seahorses, shells, keys and anchors. Oasis have an amazing Book of Charms coming into stores this week, with a chain and selection of 12 sterling silver charms for €106
* We're stocking up on... glam leisure wear
Nobody does easy chic as well as Belgian label Lounge Lover does. This dress is €145 from net-a-porter
* We're not sure about... DKNY cup sleeves
For shizzle? Someone needs to tell the people at DKNY that over branding is so not cool anymore. And we're not paying €23 for a cup 'sleeve'
* We're dropping hints for... A Lulu Guinness ring
The designer's signature red lips are a common motif and menfolk looking for a great Valentine's Day gift should check out this red diamante ring, €61, available from Brown Thomas
