The blobfish is in danger of becoming extinct due to increased levels of deep sea fishing in the Southern Hemisphere. Previously, the fish – dubbed the world's ugliest animal – rarely came into contact with humans since it is inedible and exists at depths of 900 meters under the surface. But an increase in deep sea fishing around Tasmania means more and more blobfish are being hauled up with other catches. The blobfish is remarkably gelatinous, meaning it can float just above the seabed without swimming or expending energy.
