Girl Power: Olive Loughnane received due recognition for the fantastic year she has had by picking up three awards at the National Athletics awards last night

Olive Loughnane was duly rewarded for her magnificent silver medal at the World Championships in Berlin last August when she received three different awards at the annual National Athletics Presentation Ceremony at the Crowne Plaza Hotel.


Loughnane dominated the ceremony by winning three Woodies DIY- Tipperary Crystal awards, Athlete of the Year, Performance of the Year and the Walker of the Year.


In fact the awards were dominated by women as Derval O'Rourke received the Track Athlete of the Year, Mary Cullen from Sligo was honoured with the Road and Cross-Country Athlete of the Year and Kelly Proper from Ferrybank received the Field Event Athlete of the Year award.


While yet another female athlete, Ciara Mageean of Lisburn, won the Junior Athlete of the Year.
